E2, The Welsh International Climbing and Activity Centre Attains Prestigious Green Dragon Environmental Award

The Welsh International Climbing and Activity Centre has just been recognized for its excellent standard of environmental procedures and efficiency in having earned the Green Dragon environmental award. This level two standard is completely unique to businesses in Wales and was achieved here at the centre after assessment on 14th August 2007. The standard recognises our commitment to a ‘green’ friendly ethos, which can be seen in many of our continued procedures, including continual environmental improvement, compliance with environmental legislation, prevention of pollution, and communication of environmental issues.

Joanne Sheldon-Evans, partner in Engine Training and Consultancy LLP at the centre, said “We feel it is so in keeping with the notion of an outdoor activity and learning centre to set the standard in being environmentally friendly, and we’re overjoyed at being recognized for our efforts in this award. The Green Dragon Standard has not only provided us with the elements of an effective environmental management system, but also acts as an implementation tool for achieving the higher European Standard ISO14001: 2004.”

Many changes have been made to E2 in preparation for this assessment, including recycling all paper, metal, glass and general dry waste, implementation of countryside environmental controls (to make sure all activities and excursions outside of the centre are as ‘green-friendly’ as possible) as well as reducing energy consumption throughout the centre.
