Click here (or scroll to the end) to check out our new events calendars!! Hello Adventure Seekers! At very long last, here it is…the very first newsletter from E2, the Welsh International Climbing and Activity Centre. It’s been a great eight months since the centre has been under new management, and there’s been a lot going on behind the scenes! Thanks for your support as always folks. Anyone who’s visited E2 in the last few weeks has seen the repair work going on in the walls, and we should be only a short time away from having every wall up and running again with some really exciting new routes! We've had both bouldering areas completely reset over the last week, and we'd love your input on which walls you'd rather have finished first...this way we can prioritise the repairs according to what you want. Email us!!
Keep watching the site for exclusive web offers and special discounts. See you at E2 soon…but until then, here’s some exciting news about recent happenings and future events! Tim Emmett Visits to Tell Us About His Latest Adventures! E2, The Welsh International Climbing and Activity Centre, was pleased to host a visit and lecture by one of the UK’s top climbers. TIM EMMETT has recently been featured on BBC’s Top Gear chasing Jeremy Clarkson up a mountain, and was more recently seen helping BBC Watchdog’s Julia Bradbury climb a 60m sandstone sea stack in Scotland for a special BBC presentation. Tim is renowned as one of Britain’s best all-round climbers, and ranked in the top ten of the Ice Climbing World Championships in 2001. An original pioneer of Deep water soloing, his latest and most widely covered passion has become climbing big walls with a parachute, for express delivery to the BASE! Tim’s lecture and presentation were breathtaking. Many exciting stories were exchanged during the day, including the fact that Tim had even base-jumped the Clifton Gorge in Bristol that very morning. Alex and Connor Stokes (9 and 11 years old respectively) were particularly excited to meet the legend. Alex is the current Welsh Champion in the 7-9 age group, and said “Tim’s a hero! I can’t believe he took the time to give me hints on how to be a better climber!”

(inc prize presentations) Success for E2 and Equip-Wales at Mermaid Quay E2’s visit at the Mermaid Quay complex in the heart of Cardiff Bay was a thorough success! With the help of ClimbNGo’s fantastic mobile climbing wall, we setup outside Terra Nova in order to raise funds for local charity, Equip-Wales. Over £300.00 in donations were raised, and more than 150 children and adults scaled the wall with smiles all around! Joanne Sheldon-Evans, partner in E2 said, “The day went way beyond anyone’s expectations. From the moment the mobile wall opened at 10am to when we closed at 6pm, the wall was packed, and drew large crowds of spectators too! The excitement and interest from the public was overwhelming, and we’re so happy to have raised these funds for as deserving a charity as Equip-Wales.”
Equip-Wales, established with the Charities Commission in February 2005, aims to provide equipment that may not be deemed essential by the hospital administration but could play a vital part in patients’ recovery. | The charity also uses any funds raised to provide additional equipment for Welsh hospitals. To date, the charity has provided for Bobath Cymru, Aberdare Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital, and the Heath Hospital in Cardiff. This event also provided the opportunity to harness people’s interest in the exciting and increasingly popular sport of climbing. A half hour session of climbing burns over 300 calories and tones every muscle group in the body. The ‘boredom’ factor of conventional exercise is non-existent, and it is also a great way to meet like-minded people. The mobile wall is a great way to introduce young and old alike to this exciting sport! E2 and Equip-Wales would like to thank Mermaid Quay and ClimbNGo for their friendly help and support in organizing this event. We’ll be back at Mermaid Quay very soon, so check details on the website and come and join us for a bayside climb! |
