All staff are in-house trained by technical experts of a standard recommended by The British Mountaineering Council, The Association of British Climbing Walls & The Adventure Activities Licensing Authority.
Currently we have a British Mountain Guide (the highest award possible in mountaineering) who trains & assesses the competence of all indoor wall instructors. This guide also assesses and maintains the skills of our instructors in gorge walking, mountain walking, and climbing and abseiling (including the specialist area of tidal crags.) | |
We also have a CIC caving instructor (holding the highest UK cave instructor award) who advises us on the safe use of the caving system & correct applications of this information in staff training.
More essential additions to the centre are two level III kayaking coaches who have the ability to assess instructors for kayaking up to grade II water, and Canadian canoeing to inland flat water.
In addition to in-house training, instructors are encouraged to pass national governing body awards, and most wall staff have undergone their Single Pitch Award Training or assessment through the UK Mountain Leader Training Board & their local cave leader training through the NCA (National Caving Association.)
Ropes Course Developments, who built our high ropes course train our staff & inspect the course on a regular basis.
